The Nest
UMC Youth and Children Center
21st Century Community Learning Center
Welcome to The Nest
Since 2018, The Nest afterschool and summer programs have been operated by the First United Methodist Church Eastpoint Youth and Children's Center. While the Nest is administered by a faith-based organization, it is open to all Franklin County students regardless of faith who are in pre-Kindergarten through the eighth grade. The Nest programs are free of charge. The Nest is funded each grant year under the federal 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21CCLC) program which is administered by the Florida Department of Education. The Nest is a member of the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) which sets high standards for member schools, and ACSI inspects our operations annually.
The Nest provides two learning centers (“sites”). One is in west Carrabelle at 1581 Highway 98, and in Eastpoint at 317 Patton Drive. In addition to students from the Franklin County School, the Nest also welcomes students from Apalachicola Bay Charter (ABC) School and First Baptist School.
The 21CCLC program provides academic enrichment opportunities during non-school hours for children. The program is designed to help students meet state and local standards in core academic subjects. In addition, it offers students enrichment activities to complement their regular academic programs. The program also offers literacy services to participating children.
We offer project-based learning activities and character education. The project-based activities present “hands on” opportunities for reading, math, science, visual and performing arts. We have scheduled parent involvement and family literacy night activities.
After school bus transportation is available to both sites according to the school district’s bus routes and scheduling. For our Summer program, both sites operate on a morning drop off and evening pick up basis.
